Founding Principles
Nazareth House is founded upon the belief that the fundamental strength of our society lies in each individual family and that the future of the humanity of people and society passes always through the heart of every family. Further, the renewal of family life is a major and fundamental first step in the evangelization of the world.
Vision
Pope John Paul II in his apostolic exhortation Familiaris Consortio wrote: "Family, become what you are." In response to this challenge, our vision is that every family become a holy family. (Pope John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio, n. 17)
Mission
Nazareth House exists to assist people on their journey of faith, to awaken a vibrant Catholic spirituality and to draw people into a life of prayer that prepares them to fulfill the Church's mission to evangelize.
Goals
Our purpose is to develop an enthusiastic response to the Great Jubilee of the Third Millennium, beginning with the family and extending to the broader family communion.
-
Facilitate
Provide opportunities for making the family "a school of deeper humanity" and a "domestic church" by providing ways for people to integrate their spiritual lives and their family lives. (Pope John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio, n. 21)
-
Inform
Collect and distribute information that will enable individual families and the broader family communion to live as "an intimate community of life and love." (Pope John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio, n. 17)
-
Promote
Organize and support educational and spiritual opportunities for individuals, groups, and families that illuminate the connections between family spirituality and evangelization.
-
Foster
Deepen ecumenical involvement and "dialogue" with those of other faiths through "sharing of faith, religious experiences, prayer, [and] contemplation. In such sharing, all parties are mutually enriched." (National Conference of Catholic Bishops, To the Ends of the Earth, n. 41)
Spiritual Programs
Evangelization proceeds from each individual's daily, ongoing, personal conversion to Christ. This comes about through a commitment to prayer and reflection, study and continued formation in the faith, and spiritual friendships, beginning in a friendship with Jesus Christ.
For Individuals, Families and Groups
- Spiritual Direction
- Pastoral Counseling
- Guided Prayer Retreats, inspired by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
If Mary and Joseph were looking for a place to make a home for Jesus, would they choose our house and all that it holds and is filled with? Make your house, your family, another Nazareth where love, peace, joy, and unity reign, for love begins at home. You must be the hope of eternal happiness to your wife, your husband, your child, to your grandfather, grandmother, to whoever is connected with you.

Now, more than ever, the Church needs holy families, that is, families which are authentic "domestic church" in the ordinary circumstances of everyday life. It is in these families that the seeds of the most heroic sanctity are nurtured.
